Compliance
Understanding how insurance measures PAP usage and what compliance means for your continued coverage and therapy success.
What do the insurance companies define as “compliant”?
What does this mean to you?
Most PAP devices are equipped with the ability to monitor a patient’s usage or compliance via Bluetooth.
Durable medical equipment (DME) providers will use this data to ensure that you are using your device. This is so that the DME can get paid by your insurance provider for the device they have provided you with.
Most insurance companies require adequate use of PAP devices to continue coverage. Adequate usage is defined as more than 4 hours for 70% of the time (22 days a month for more than 4 hours).
If you do not use the device for a minimum of 4 hours per day the DME provider will ask you to return the device.
